TONYA: I was drawn to hospitality because it’s one of the few industries where you can genuinely impact how people feel in a single moment. Whether it’s a guest, a team member, or a community partner, hospitality is about care, connection, and showing up with intention.
Q: How do you define a strong people-first culture, especially in a hospitality environment?
TONYA: In hospitality, a people-first culture starts behind the scenes. It’s about how leaders show up for their teams – listening, supporting, and recognizing effort, not just outcomes. When employees feel respected and empowered, that care naturally carries over to the guest experience. Strong cultures aren’t built on perks alone – they’re built on trust, consistency, and genuine care.
Q: How does HR play a role in empowering associates to take ownership of their roles and grow in their careers?
TONYA: In hospitality, empowerment starts with support. HR helps associates grow by listening, coaching, and ensuring they have the tools, training, and resources to succeed. When people feel heard and valued, they’re more confident taking initiative and owning their development.
Q: What is one thing you hope LBA associates feel or experience because of the HR team’s work?
TONYA: I hope associates experience a sense of trust and belonging. HR’s work should create an environment where people feel safe to speak up, grow, and take ownership of their roles – without fear and with full support.
